  This is the use of information technology to allow people to work in their own homes, while still being in easy contact with the office. Typically, this involves use of email and fax, as well as allowing remote users access to a central computer or network.

  A general term describing the communication of information over a distance. The method of communication is normally via a cable, wire, fibre optic, or radio/wireless.

  A term to describe working remotely, e.g. working from home and communicating electronically with the office.

  When a particular style of document is used frequently it is possible to save time and effort by setting a template or style sheet. Any part of the document that is always the same is saved in a file and can be retrieved when the user wants to create one of these documents. The user can store such things as headings, paragraph styles, screen layouts, calculations and macros in their template.

• terminal
  A computer or computer-controlled device which provides a user with access to a network.

• terminator
  A terminator is a specified value, not normally expected in the data, that is used to mark the end of a list of data items. The program can process the data in order until it reaches the terminator. The number of data items can vary and does not have to be known in advance.

  During testing of a program, test data is used by the programmer to check to see if the program is working correctly.

  A test plan is used when testing a system, and outlines the processes to be tested and the data to be used.
