• toolbar
  A horizontal or vertical bar which displays the various tools available in an application.

• toolbox
  A box which contains and displays the various tools available in an application.

• top level domain (TLD)
  In the domain name system, the last part of the domain name (and so the highest level), e.g. .com, .net or .uk.

• top-down programming
  Top-down programming or stepwise refinement is a particular type of structured programming, where the overall problem is defined in simple terms and then split into a number of smaller tasks. Each of these tasks is split and refined until they are small enough to be understood and programmed.

• touch pad
  An input device, usually on notebooks. A touch sensitive pressure pad, it is used to control the cursor, instead of (or as well as) a mouse.

• touchscreen
  A screen typically found in kiosk type browsers, and cash machines, etc., control is by touching the screen, instead of, or as well as, using a keyboard.

• tower
  A type of desktop computer casing where the components are arranged vertically, not horizontally. It is designed to stand on the floor next to a desk.

• track
  When a disk is formatted, it is split into tracks that are concentric circles stored on the disk. Each of these tracks is split up into a number of sectors.

• track changes
  Some applications, e.g. word processors, provide a function to track (i.e. record) changes when a number of users are involved in creating and revising a document.

• trackerball
  Also known as trackball. An input device which is used to do the same actions as a mouse. It is a ball, set into a cup, which can be made to roll in any direction by using a finger or the palm of a hand, depending on the size of the ball. The movements of the ball are followed on the screen by a pointer, and finger-operated switches work in the same way as mouse buttons.

• tractor feed
  Tractor feed, also known as pin feed , is a mechanism for advancing paper by the use of perforations down the side of the paper and a toothed wheel (a sprocket).

• transaction file
  The file of data used to update a master file, e.g. in a payroll application, the transaction file may include the hours worked by each employee in the current week.

• transition
  The process of moving from one slide to the next.
• 
• transitional effect
  A transitional effect is the effect which happens when moving from one slide to the next.
• 
• transmission control protocol (TCP)
  A data transmission protocol defined for high-speed communications within networks.
• 
• transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP)
  The set of working practices which allows all internet users and providers to communicate with each other whatever their equipment is. TCP/IP specifies how individual signals are sent over the internet.

• trash
  To trash something is to delete it.
• 
• tree
  A non-linear data structure where the data items can be thought of as occurring at different levels. There are links between items at one level and their descendants at the next. Each data item has data which relates it to its unique parent node. The links between nodes are called branches.

• Trojan horse
  A program which performs a normal process in the computer whilst also performing another, possibly harmful, process at the same time.

• troubleshoot
  To find and correct the bugs in a system.
