uniform resource locator (URL)
The address for data on the internet. Each resource, which is usually a file, has a name, its URL, which specifies the file or data and the location where it is stored. The URL includes the transfer protocol to be used, for example http, the domain name where it is stored, and other information such as its individual file name.
