Origins of these signs
Signs were found by interviewing individuals or groups of deaf professionals and looking at signed TV programmes. They were not invented or created for this project.
A panel of 'critical friends' — deaf professionals and BSLspecialists — reviewed every sign to check it was culturally and linguistically appropriate before it was included in the dictionary.
Where no commonly agreed sign could be found for a term, that term has not been included.
